FLUORITE PROPERTIES

✧ CLARITY ✧ FOCUS ✧ DISCERNMENT ✧ INTELLECT ✧
✧ OPEN-MINDEDNESS ✧ CONCENTRATION ✧ TRUTH ✧
✧ PERSPECTIVE ✧ STABILITY ✧ CURIOSITY ✧

Fluorite is a calcium fluoride mineral (CaF₂), famous for its remarkable range of colours and beautifully geometric crystals, particularly cubes and octahedra. Its name is connected to the Latin fluere, meaning “to flow,” referring to fluorite's historical use as a flux in metalworking.

To me, Fluorite is fundamentally a mineral of the mind.

I associate it with focus, organization and the ability to examine something clearly without becoming overwhelmed by competing thoughts. It has long been one of my favourite minerals to keep nearby while studying, writing, researching or working toward a goal.

But clarity involves more than concentration.

Fluorite also represents discernment: the willingness to investigate an idea, listen to different perspectives, question our own assumptions and ultimately come to conclusions through careful thought rather than simply accepting whatever we are told.

Different colours of Fluorite have always evoked different aspects of this process for me.

BLUE FLUORITE

✧ COMMUNICATION ✧ EXPRESSION ✧ PHILOSOPHY ✧ TRUTH ✧

Blue Fluorite represents putting thought into words.

I particularly associate it with philosophical conversations and those moments when we understand something internally but struggle to articulate exactly what we mean.

It reminds me that communication is itself a discipline. Finding the right words requires thought, patience and an understanding that how something is expressed can be just as important as what we are trying to say.

I also strongly associate Blue Fluorite with voice and sound. As a singer, I find the human voice fascinating: breath becomes vibration, vibration becomes sound, and sound becomes language, music and emotional expression.

The voice allows something that exists invisibly within us -an idea, emotion or intention -to become perceptible to another person.

That alone feels rather magical to me.

CLEAR FLUORITE

✧ CLARITY ✧ FOCUS ✧ ORDER ✧ REFLECTION ✧

Clear Fluorite represents mental clarity in its simplest form.

I associate it with sorting through thoughts, identifying what deserves our attention and releasing ideas or assumptions that are no longer useful.

Its transparency reminds me of the value of examining something without unnecessarily colouring it with what I want it to mean.

Clear Fluorite represents creating enough mental space to observe, think and reconsider.

GREEN FLUORITE

✧ WELL-BEING ✧ HABITS ✧ ORGANIZATION ✧ ATTENTION ✧

Green Fluorite represents paying attention to how we care for ourselves.

I associate it with routines, organization and becoming more observant of the relationship between our daily choices and how we feel.

Rather than believing a mineral can diagnose illness or determine which medicine someone should take, Green Fluorite reminds me of something much more practical: learn to pay attention to your body.

Rest, movement, nutrition, stress and daily habits all contribute to our experience of well-being. Becoming more attentive can help us make thoughtful choices and recognize when something deserves professional attention.

To me, Green Fluorite represents approaching health with curiosity, responsibility and care.

PURPLE FLUORITE

✧ DISCERNMENT ✧ TRUTH ✧ PERSPECTIVE ✧ INDIVIDUALITY ✧
✧ OPEN-MINDEDNESS ✧ AUTHENTICITY ✧ WISDOM ✧

Purple Fluorite represents the courage to remove our rose-coloured glasses.

There are things we believe because we have carefully considered them; and things we believe simply because they are familiar, comforting or widely accepted by the people around us.

I associate Purple Fluorite with learning to tell the difference.

To me, it is a symbol of discernment: seeking truth for oneself while remaining willing to listen to perspectives that challenge our own.

Open-mindedness does not mean automatically accepting every idea we encounter. Nor does discernment require immediately rejecting everything unfamiliar.

There is wisdom in being able to say:

I will listen.
I will consider.
I will investigate.
And then I will decide what I believe.

Purple Fluorite reminds me that changing our minds when presented with better information is not weakness. Neither is standing apart from the crowd when careful consideration leads us somewhere different.

Truth should matter more than belonging.

It represents the courage to think for ourselves without becoming incapable of learning from others.

YELLOW FLUORITE

✧ DECISION ✧ LEADERSHIP ✧ COOPERATION ✧ OPTIMISM ✧
✧ WILL ✧ ORGANIZATION ✧ ACTION ✧

Yellow Fluorite represents turning thought into decision.

I associate it particularly with leadership and situations where many competing considerations must be organized into a clear direction.

Good leadership requires more than confidence. It requires listening, weighing information, making decisions and accepting responsibility for what follows.

I also associate Yellow Fluorite with cooperation. Groups function best when individuality and common purpose can coexist, whether in a business partnership, sports team, band, creative project or community.

Ideas become meaningful when they eventually become action.

Yellow Fluorite reminds me not to remain indefinitely in contemplation, but to decide what matters, organize what is necessary and begin.

THE VIRTUE OF FLUORITE

Across all its colours, Fluorite continually brings me back to the same principle:

Think clearly, but remain teachable.

Focus without curiosity can become narrow-mindedness.
Open-mindedness without discernment can become gullibility.
Conviction without humility can become arrogance.
Knowledge without action can remain merely theoretical.

Fluorite represents finding the balance between them.

A symbol of clarity, discernment, intellectual curiosity and the lifelong pursuit of truth.
